ALBUM DETAILS CONFIRMED
[27-06-00]
The current state of play with the next album is that it is completely finished and the band are preparing to release it in early October (maybe the 2nd) - although the date may slip. The title has been decided on, but not revealed yet, although some people are currently rumouring it to be 'Kid A'. The album has 11 tracks, and barring any last-minute changes they will be:

Optimistic / The National Anthem / How to Disappear / In Limbo / Morning Bell / Idioteque / Kid A / Motion Picture Soundtrack / Knives Out / Egyptian Song / Everything In Its Right Place

Out of the 40 songs the band currently have, 26 of them have been recorded and mixed and are ready for release. The band are unsure of what they are going to do with the other 15 tracks - they are very keen to get new material out within a year of the release of the fourth LP. Colin recently mentioned maybe doing a series of 12"'s with some of the more different new tracks. A single won't be released before the album itself is released, but one will probably follow some time after October - with B-sides taken from the last few years' recording sessions.
[thanks Max K.]

BAND BACK IN STUDIO IN AUGUST
[27-06-00] Radiohead will return to the studio this August. Colin said this in an interview with 'Le Soir'. The recordings for Radiohead's fifth album wil start winter 2001. And on the 'colours' of the upcoming release, colin said: "It will be a mix of traditionnal and very new things: a true Radiohead album. The color, I would say... Not ginger anyway, because that's the color of the carpet in the studio and it made me sick. No, I would say, according to the cover, white with strong, mixed, digital colors..."

RADIOHEAD IN THESSALONIKI
[26-06-00]
Radiohead played in Thessaloniki last night with 9 new songs in their set. Here are some comments from ed's diary: "we played in thessaloniki last night at the earth theatre..... a beautiful modern amphitheatre which had actually been dug out of the hill that overlooks that city....a brilliant audience who exhibited great patience at hearing a set with nine new songs and a band which ignored repeated requets for creep (....understandable on their part, the requests that is, as this was our first visit) and pop is dead (..... cheeky bastards....)" To read more, go here. A review of the gig can be found here.

THREE DATES IN IRELAND
[25-06-00]
Ticketmaster.ie has announced gigs in Ireland for October 6, 7 & 8. The three gigs will take place in a big top tent at Punchestwon Racecourse (Kildare).

BJORK CHATS ABOUT YORKE
www.spin.com wrote: In an online chat Thursday on ArtistDirect, Bjork spoke a bit about a much-anticipated collaboration with Radiohead's Thom Yorke for a track on Selmasongs, the soundtrack to Lars Von Trier's Dancer in the Dark
"I sang a duet with Thom Yorke of Radiohead. It's on the soundtrack album for the film [Dancer in the Dark]. It was a gorgeous experience...we spent four days in Spain, singing a few hours a day. It's been a dream of mine for a long time to blend my voice with his. That was lovely!"
The song is titled "I've Seen It All," and you will be able to hear it when the soundtrack is released, tentatively in September.

SUPPORT THE JUBILEE 2000

Thom posted the following message on his page on www.radiohead.com
"dear whoever is reading this. PLEASE do the following if you agree with Jubilee 2000. the G7 have snaked their way out of most of the promises they made last year and this is the best way to shit them up for this years summit. the G7 in its apathy and ineffectual gesturing is now responsible directly for the deaths of millions of people this year. years of misguided economic policy and thinly veiled imperialism must be changed. (please refer to Jubilee2000 website for more info if you have not as yet been followed this message.) this is from Jubilee 2000. i suggest we stick this in the G7s pipe and make em smoke it. love thom". read more on thom's official page

ED'S DIARY UPDATE

[18-06-00] "it's sunday so it must be milan and the royal palace - the king of italy once lived here in this monza palace........... in fact we've just been shown the theatre where he reputedly threw huge orgies. it's quite a place. barcelona and last night's show in frejus were immense...... barca started a little weirdly with us and the audience getting used to the teatro tivoli, the most un-rock'n roll of venues (extremely ornate however).......eveyone stayed pinned to their seats until we returned for an encore. our day off in barca consisted of eating and drinking vast amounts, broken up by a two hour siesta... ideal.....the only downer to the frejus gig was when i announced on stage that england had beaten germany in the football through a shearer goal.....bad move this was zidane country and very partisan to boot..... nevertheless a great audience. i picked italy in our euro 2000 sweepstake so as far as i'm concerned we're playing on home turf tonight ....it's very warm."

ED'S INTERVIEW WITH 'LE MONDE'
[15-06-00]

Here's an interview with Ed O'Brien with french newspaper 'Le Monde'. Click here for the original french version

Thanks to Benjamin Benrio for the translation:

Three questions for Ed O'Brien

QUESTION 1
Wasn't it too difficult, for Radiohead's guitarist, to adapt to the scene the new album's songs ,released in October, which seems to be really marked by the electronic music ?

ANSWER
Our two firsts album were entirely made according to live shows. The third one, Ok Computer, was recorded at 85% in live conditions. The next one's really different. You'll find in it some liberties with our music, and very much surprising things because of  unconventional using of electronic music. Some of those songs were almost recorded only by Thom. Some of them couldn't be play live, we didn't touch to them. We began to repeat this tour five weeks ago. Little by little, we find back an 'alchemy' that we lost for almost two  years.

QUESTION 2
After your summer tour in antic theatres, you're keeping on touring, playing under a big-top. Is it to arrange the album's concept with the show ?

ANSWER
We recorded discs to try at different things, and not to become the biggest  band in the world. In the same way, the perspective to play again in stadiums or giant places  didn't excite us at all. Even if this tent contains 10.000 people, it may have something close friend and warm. Our lighter, Andy Watson, more influenced by theatre or dance than by  shows, worked a lot about this project.

QUESTION 3
In the movie M.P.I.E, about your last tour, we saw Radiohead 'dead boring' when they wasn't playing. Why are you touring back now ?

ANSWER
That movie showed not enough the pleasure we had during the shows, our  life-maker. But it's
true that our life during the tours can be really boring. During that tour, i was always totally fucked up [by drugs], to be in my own world. You must take some precautions to keep living truely : not staying more than four weeks far from your house, keep on recording in studio during the tour, and reading newspapers not to escape from reality.

And while we're at it. Here's a review from the same newspaper of the Arles gig on tuesday.

RADIOHEAD TO PLAY DUBLIN, IRELAND
[13-06-00]
Still unconfirmed, but it's very likely that radiohead will play in dublin, ireland on october 7th 2000 as part of their European Tent Tour. A spokesperson for promoters of the gig, which will take place at Punchestown Racecourse, said the date is likely to be confirmed by the end of the week, and press reports in Ireland indicate that it could be October 7. (from NME)

THOM'S PAGE UPDATED
[10-06-00]
Thom updated his page on the official radiohead website again with some pictures of the band, commented with: "record finished. all evidence destroyed. all gaps complete."

THOM & PJ HARVEY COLLABORATION REALLY HAPPENING
[09-06-00]
The official PJ Harvey website (http://pjharvey.net) mentioned the collaboration between Thom Yorke and PJ Harvey again. PJ Harvey is currently working on her new album.

Here's the website's newsbit:

P J Harvey - Exclusive Studio Shots:
pjharvey.net brings you exclusive studio shots of P J Harvey, taken by Maria Mochnacz, during the recent recording session at Great Linford Manor. We hear that recording of the new album has been going extremely well and is coming close to completion. We've also heard that there may just be some truth to the recent rumor that Thom Yorke joined P J Harvey in the studio to work on a track with her!

COLIN CONFIRMS TRACKS FOR THE NEW ALBUM
[09-06-00]
Colin Greenwood was interviewed by Dutch music magazine 'OOR'. Here are some quotes concerning the new album. "...But I think I'm pleased with the new album. "If you like songs like Exit Music and Airbag, but don't like Electioneering, you will probably like the new album. I thought that Electioneering was the weakest track of OK Computer.

Colin confirmed that the following songs will make it to the album, which won't be longer than 45 minutes, as the band want to release their other material soon after the release of album #4:
1 how to disappear
2 kid a
3 everything in it's right place
4 everyone (the national anthem)
5 motion picture soundtrack
6 idioteque
7 morning bell
8 egyptian song

this means there are still 2 or 3 tracks and an album title to complete the fourth album.

Read the full interview here.

RADIOHEAD ARE ALREADY THINKING ABOUT ALBUM #5
[08-06-00]
In the interview with HUMO Magazine, Jonny and Colin revealed some juicy details...On the recording of the new album: The recording is over, but they still have to work on a cover and pick a title for the album. They've got 15 of them, and they have way too many songs. Thom's thinking about that in London now, but for the choice of the songs, they all do that together.  Colin describes it as hell. They have meetings that take hours, often from 4 pm until midnight, only about the order of the songs. The band have had 3 of those sessions already. Also, they want a short record, only 10 or 11 songs, but they've finished more than 20 songs (out of 40 they have worked on). That doesn't make it any easier. About the unfinished songs, in september 2001 they want to have finished yet another new album with all new songs.  Before that, everything they still have has to be brought out first.

thanks Marc Gommans

RADIOHEAD TOPS ALL TIME ALBUM LIST
[02-06-00]

On June 1st, Radio 3FM broadcast the annual 'Heavenly Top 100' ('Hemelse Top 100'). OK Computer topped the chart once more, just like last year's edition. The Bends was at a slightly disappointing 25th spot. Also, Dutch music channel The Music Factory broadcast a special chart, the Top 90 of the 90's. Karma Police was voted 64. Oddly enough Creep and Street Spirit were left out of the chart! Tisk tisk!

Thanks Marc Gommans
