MORE ON THOM Y. VS. TONY B.

[27-10-00] Thom Yorke has continued his attack on Prime Minister Tony Blair, cheekily asking if he "deserves a file at MI5" on the official website. Thom has posted a secret message on his page. The text, which reads: "I reckon I maybe deserve a file at MI5 now Tony what do you think?" is written in black on a black background, and is only visible by highlighting what appears to be blank space at the top of the page. LAST GIG OF THE TOUR
[21-10-00] Radiohead performed at the Los Angeles Greek Theater last night. It was the last gig of the current tour. It was a 2 hour set with Thom dedicating 'Just' to "anyone whose thought of committing suicide." Just before 'Pyramid Song Thom said "this one is for the people in the woods," at which time a loud round of cheers rose from the hundreds of fans that had sneaked up among the hills and hid out in the trees behind the open air venue. Thom also noted that this song is about "the Milky Way and the universe, and everything like that..." [thanks David]

RADIOHEAD IN TORONTO

The full setlist is available in the gigography. A recording of 'follow me around' is available in the multimedia section.

RADIOHEAD RELEASE LIVE FOOTAGE
[17-10-00] Radiohead are planning to release live footage recorded on their recent European tour to video channels as a way of avoiding making promotional videos. Speaking in an interview on the US website www.canoe.ca. Jammusic, guitarist Jonny Greenwood said the videos will be comprised of material shot while on tour throughout the year, and will feature the band playing material from their new album 'Kid A'. [full story on nme.com]

Canada's music video channel, MuchMusic, confirmed late Monday that they have received the band's collection of concert footage, and at an upcoming meeting will consider whether they'll air the results. [full story on jam music]

KID B ALMOST FINISHED
[17-10-00] Jonny Greenwood said that the band's next album, the follow-up to 'Kid A', is almost complete. Speaking about the material which was omitted from 'Kid A'. He said: "We've got about 13 or 14 songs which we need to edit a little bit, maybe take a couple out, maybe remix one or two, put them in the right order, and then it is done." However, bassist Colin Greenwood was less forthcoming. He said: "I'm not sure they are two records. We had that group of songs to make one record, and the other ones are left over. It's that we had, say, 23 songs and we wanted to have around 47 minutes of music, so we chose the best combination out of that number (for 'Kid A'), and the rest are waiting on the bench, waiting to be picked for the next team line-up. "We haven't decided what it is going to be like. It is a combination of like, more conventional, perhaps, but also more dissonant stuff. But it continues on from 'Kid A'. It was all done in the same recording period. It is all a whole." [full story on nme.com]

ED'S BBC INTERVIEW

[16-10-00] Speaking in an interview to be broadcast tomorrow evening on radio station BBC London Live, guitarist Ed O'Brien was more forthcoming about the band's success. Talking about 'Kid A' going to number one in the UK he said: "It's brilliant, it's like winning the FA Cup! It's everything. To think people went out and bought that and we haven't had a record out for ages...now we can make another couple of records, that's the bottom line." O'Brien said Radiohead had always been jealous of the way Massive Attack worked with a less defined band structure, as well as comparing 'Kid A' to 'Pablo Honey'. He said: "'Kid A' is like our 'Pablo Honey' (in that) we're just getting to grips with the technology in the studio and what we're capable of doing. We were bored of playing guitars and it's rekindled the love of playing live again." read the full NME story here.

NY TIMES REVIEW
[13-10-00] Sweeping comparisons can be useful in assessing pop obscured by media hoopla. When the noise surrounding a band is big, think big. To wit: Radiohead is the rock equivalent of the Internet. Read the full review here. [thanks Mikula]

RADIOHEAD IN NEW YORK
[12-10-00] Thanks to Ben Adams for the setlist of last night's gig at New York's Roseland Ballroom: the national anthem * morning bell * airbag * in limbo * optimistic * lucky * my iron lung * permanent daylight * you and whose army * no surprises * dollars and cents * talk show host * how to disappear completely * paranoid android * idioteque * just * everything in its right place * i might be wrong * karma police * the bends * pyramid song * motion picture soundtrack.

Following the band's triumphant show at the Roseland Ballroom, bassist Colin Greenwood said that their success was "madness, it's fucking brilliant". Of the current wave of support for Radiohead sweeping the US, Greenwood added: "It will be interesting to see what happens in Europe now after America and all the press here." Tickets for the band's show on October 20 in Los Angeles Greek Theatre are being sold through ebay online auction for over $5,000 a pair. [head over the nme.com for some stories about the new york show: here and here]

SPOOKY TICKETMASTER
[11-10-00] Today people managed to buy tickets to tonight's show at Roseland in NYC--through Ticketmaster!!! The system kept saying it couldn't fulfill the requests, but every now and then it worked. The NYC Ticketmaster # is 212-307-7171. I don't know if there any available, but those who are desperate might try calling several times. That may be fruitless, but that's how it worked online: it kept saying they were unavailable, but every now and then it would work. [thanks Ben Adams]

AUSSIE CHART
[10-10-00]
Kid A debuted at Number 2 in the Australian charts behind the embarrassing Olympics Opening Ceremony CD [thanks Stephen]

KID A vs. BLAIR
[10-10-00] The first pressings of 'KID A' contain a hidden booklet which seems to launch a personal attack on Prime Minister TONY BLAIR. The booklet, which was placed behind the CD casing in the first batch of 'Kid A' in the UK, contains the dedication 'For Leo', presumably a reference to the Blairs' new born son, as well as a pencil-drawn caricature of Tony Blair within the booklet. Elsewhere in the booklet are a series of Orwellian slogans, which include: 'He'll take the money from under your nose. He'll tell you all you want to hear', 'He says he wants to be our friend, he says he's always been on our side' and 'He paints himself reflective white to reflect the blast when it comes'. READ THE FULL NME STORY HERE.

RADIOHEAD @ TMF

[05-10-00] On Sunday October 8th TMF (Dutch Music TV Channel) will do a 'Radiohead - Kid A' special in the Top 2000 show. I'm guessing the broadcast will be a 'Kid A' replay, together with an interview with Thom Yorke. There will also be a Radiohead Top 10. You can vote for your favourite radiohead track by e-mailing: Top2000@tmf.nl [thanks Marc Gommans]

'KID A' TO NUMBER ONE
[05-10-00] 'KID A' looks set to go straight to Nr. 1 in the UK after selling 86,000 copies already this week, including around 55,000 copies on the first day of its release.

A spokesperson for HMV in London said: "Between Monday and Wednesday it sold 86,000, and at this rate we expect it to shift 200,000 by Sunday. It's not the biggest selling album of the year, but it is close. It's hard to see it slowing down."

Even though the band are refusing to release any singles from 'Kid A', the spokesperson added that, in the short term, that may not be a disadvantage. He continued: "Everyone is talking about their lack of marketing - which is doing their job for them!" [read the full NME story here]

RADIOHEAD TO PLAY NEW YORK?
[05-10-00] While nothing is confirmed at press time, Radiohead is currently mulling over the possibility of playing the Roseland Ballroom in New York City next week, according to a source. The band, which will be in New York City to tape Saturday Night Live next week, could play the venue on Tuesday (Oct. 10) or Wednesday (Oct 11), or both. If the shows happen, they will be added to the band's extremely brief North American itinerary, which previously included Toronto on Oct. 17 and Los Angeles on Oct. 20 (allstar, Sept. 22). A spokesperson for the band at Capitol Records could not confirm the dates at press time, but did say plans are in the works. A spokesperson for Roseland couldn't confirm either, but did reveal the dates are currently open at the venue. [from allstar.com, thanks Chris and Nelson]

RADIOHEAD WILL RELEASE EP
[04-10-00] Speaking to the Radio 1 website, following the band's performance at Warrington Victoria Park last Monday (October 2), O'Brien alluded to the fact that the next Radiohead release would definitely be an EP, although he gave no more information as to which tracks would feature on it. He also confirmed that some of the material the band are currently playing live on their UK tour will feature on Radiohead's future fifth album. He said: "If you record 24 songs, and some of the songs you play live are off the next record, it's inevitable people are going to talk about the next album. We've got that one over and done with, and it's on to the next one. I think we're on a bit of a roll at the moment. Others may disagree." [thanks to the NME]

VILLAGE VOICE REVIEWS KID A
[04-10-00] If OK Computer was an "about" file for a 20-gigabyte suicide note, Kid A feels like a handwritten letter from somebody who's spared his own life and wonders if he made the right decision.
Here's the full 'kid a' review
[
Thanks to Juan Luna.]

RADIOHEAD TO PLAY ISRAEL AGAIN?

[03-10-00] U2 and Radiohead are targeted to headline a major three-day rock festival in Israel next spring. The event, to celebrate the Jewish Jubilee, is being organised by Perry Farrell, former frontman of Jane's Addiction and Porno For Pyros and the man who co-founded the legendary Lollapalooza travelling festivals in America. Farrell is a keen student of Jewish history and mysticism and is taken by the idea of the Jewish Jubilee, a celebration of liberty and renewal which is held every 50 years and dates back to the Jews entering the promised land after their exodus from Egypt. Farrell knows Bono and Thom Yorke via their work together on the Jubilee 2000 campaign for the cancelling of Third World debt and hopes to use this friendship to persuade the stars to join him for the Israeli festival. The event, which will be held at Tel Arad, an ancient ruined city in the Judean desert, is expected to attract around 100,000 people. [thanks Tommy]

[02-10-00] Thom Yorke was a guest on this afternoon's Mark and Lard show with BBC's Mark Radcliffe. Thom answered questions from fans.
