ROLLING
STONE'S INTERVIEW WITH THOM YORKE

[29-11-00]
The December issue of
Rolling Stone has an interview with Thom Yorke. Here are two questions
and answers: What is the thing you would most like to see
change in the coming year? I think the music corporations
should stop fucking with the way people listen to music, stop
trying to fit everything in a fucking box, start taking some fucking
risks. That’s a lot of “fucking.” Yeah. You can
edit those out if you like. I get into trouble with my mum. Read
the full interview here.

RADIOHEAD
AS SECOND MOST INFUENTIAL ARTIST

[27-11-00]
NME.COM will exclusively
present a minisite dedicated to the 20 most influential artists
in history, as voted for by the rock stars of today. The list
was compiled by NME over the period of a year, during which some
of the most important contemporary artists of today gave their
opinions on which musicians had exerted most influence over the
current music scene - with interesting results. David Bowie leads
the list, followed by Radiohead, who have pipped The Beatles into
third place. The full list is carried in this week's issue of
NME, in the shops in London tomorrow (November 28) and the rest
of the UK on Wednesday. Readers will also receive a fab free 'Under
The Influence' CD, featuring tracks from artists included in the
issue. [read more @ nme.com]

RADIOHEAD
WILL DO A LIVE SESSION AS WELL

[23-11-00]
Radiohead have confirmed
they will perform a live session for Radio 1- in addition to their
previously announced DJ mix on the Breezeblock show. The set will
be preceded by an interview with the band, conducted by DJ Steve
Lamacq on his show from 8pm. Also from 8pm the band will perform
a four track live session for the station. their first in three
years. Sources close to the band have hinted it may include a
cover version.
In the meantime Jonny and Thom answered
Max K's questions at spinwithagrin.co.uk Here's one: QUESTION:
how much loyalty can you retain to a record that has been gathering
dust on a shelf since spring? how easy is it to, right now, slap
a big grin on your face and spout bollocks about something which
happened a long time ago? isnt that constant dragging back in
time really weird? ANSWER: It was the same with OK Computer and
the Bends...you have to trust your former 6-month-ago self that
liked and was excited about it as a new thing. Talking about it
does feel pointless, and 6 months late. Hence the web stuff when
we were recording - although of course noone had heard it then,
so..... yes, wierd. JG
'KID
B' OUT IN MARCH OR APRIL 2001

[21-11-00]
Radiohead plan to release
their follow-up to 'KID A' in March or April, 2001, preceded by
a single. In an interview with NME bassist Colin Greenwood said
the band were already recording more new material, but that they
planned to take Christmas off. Of the new, as yet untitled album,
Greenwood said: "We've got to sort it out! But we're very happy
about it, really excited. "(It'll be out in) March/April time
maybe. We don't know yet but we want it to come out then. We've
got enough music." He explained that some of the songs destined
for the new album had emerged during recording sessions for 'Kid
A', but that most were completely new. "This is really more things
again," he continued: "(We're) keeping it going, y'know, not be
like a boring rock band and do an album every two years." He also
said he was "very happy" about the success of 'Kid A' in the US
- but said the band felt partly to blame about the mixed critical
reaction in UK press in that they should have sent promos copies
of the album out earlier to let journalists "live" with the album.
"I think the one serious regret we have is that we didn't give
the record to journalists a longer time away from the release
- I think a lot of people are into it now they've lived with it
for a while, because it's a great record."

JONNY'S
SPIN WITH A GRIN

[21-11-00]
Jonny answered the following
question by Douglad Wolk on 'spin with a grin'. Douglas'
question: "You've mentioned Can, Warp
Records and "Remain In Light" as reference points for the new
recordings. Are there any similar reference points for the way
you try to perform live these days?"
Jonny's answer: "Never seen footage
of Can, and photos look uncomfortably like The Young Ones, only
with four Neils. In some self-deluding moments I imagine I'm Berbie
Worell (sp?) in Stop Making Sense (the Talking Heads film by jonathan
Demme), playing all the modulating keyboards. (BERNIE rather,
curse my typinggg) JG"

STREET SPIRIT REMIX BLOCKED FOR RELEASE

[06-11-00] A remix by Paul Oakenfold
of the Radiohead song 'Street
Spirit [fade out]' may never see the light of day after the
band decided to block it from release. The DJ reworked the track
from Radiohead's second album 'The Bends' for use while DJing. However,
when Oakenfold approached the group for permission to put the track
on a compilation album, he was refused. Oakenfold reportedly told
Irish online magazine www.oceanfree.net:
"We were going to release that on 'Planet Perfecto', but unfortunately
the band Radiohead, as far as I'm concerned, don't like dance music
so they wouldn't allow us to do it. They would have got the publishing
money obviously because it is their song. It will now never be released."

RADIOHEAD NEVER GOING BACK

[02-11-00] Thom Yorke has lambasted alternative rock,
saying it needs to be "bludgeoned to death," and hinted that Radiohead
will never return to their traditional guitar roots. He
said: "It's really exciting to go back into the studio now feeling
confident again having learnt different stuff...having to learn
to play music that was written in the studio using editing, sampling
and sequencers is the way it makes you think about how you play
differently....perhaps nowadays we look more to Can and electronica
to work out how to structure stuff." Thom has updated his page with
some thoughts on the US Elections. for more on info on this

MORE
ON THOM YORKE VS. TONY BLAIR

[27-10-00] Thom Yorke has continued
his attack on Prime Minister Tony Blair, cheekily asking if he "deserves
a file at MI5" on the official website. Thom has posted a secret
message on his
page. The text, which reads: "I reckon I maybe deserve a file
at MI5 now Tony what do you think?" is written in black on a black
background, and is only visible by highlighting what appears to
be blank space at the top of the page. [Read the full story on NME.com]
