Halfway through "lucky" Thom just stopped the song and had some guy in the audience kicked of the venue for hurting other audience members. After he was gone they band started right exactly where they left off. (thanks Peter) Thom said "Kick that guy out, yeah you. This guy has been hurting people the whole show, hey, tell you what, if you want to hurt people come up here and hurt us and we'll show you how it feels." This was after Thom announced that the song would be from their first album. After the lick, Thom said, "wrong song mate." The full-to-bursting Coliseum (having sold out in 20 minutes flat) was filled with thousands of enthusiastic fans all eager to get closer to their heroes of Radiohead. When the cause celebre took the stage, thousands of floor-level youth surged forward to get closer to the group's enigmatic frontman, Thom Yorke. Barely a minute into the show's opening number, "Airbag", Yorke stormed away from the microphone and began waving his arms wildly, yelling towards guitarist Ed O'Brien. (Pictured on the right by Rodney Gitzel, from Drop-D Magazine)  The band stopped the music in mid-chorus and waited,
confused, until the guitarist spoke Yorke's wishes to the crowd.
"There are a lot of people getting squashed," he said,
obviously exasperated "...so if you want us to fucking go off
we will. Please don't. We really, really want to play to you."
Surprisingly, the audience listened and obliged. Yorke put back
on his guitar and started the whole show over from chord one. The
five-piece plowed through a second version of "Airbag"
while the frontman kept one eye most specifically on the crowd.
 Guitar legend Jonny Greenwood (Pictured on the left by
Rodney Gitzel, from Drop-D Magazine) was set up stage right as usual, surrounded
by effects pedals and endless amounts of gear; the one difference
in the traditional Radiohead setup was a Rhodes piano and small
keyboard just next to the drum kit; one which Jonny took his place
behind during the group's second number, "Karma Police"
and later traded off with other band members throughout the night.
"'Karma"'s performance was well-recieved but the
show's opening glitch stuck with the group right through until their
third number, "The Bends"; Yorke spoke no words but sang
volumes as his emotional alto rang through the cement venue. The Coliseum's normally flattened sound was nearly flawless, a testament to a group who quite obviously spent time and money choosing equipment capable of capturing their every nuance. With desperate vocals pouring out of Yorke's tiny, twitching body, "The Bends" was a highlight not only for the fans but also the band who seemed finally completely present during the song's performance. Similar feelings echoed in the delivery of "Just" and "Iron Lung" where the band surged full force until Yorke stood on the lip of the stage, leaning forward to give a crowd surfer a closer look at his middle finger. Contrary to all other shows on the West Coast leg of this tour, Radiohead performed few new numbers; a short, moody instrumental piece ("Meeting In the Aisle") accompanied the band as they walked onstage. It was a full 11 songs into the set until Yorke -- who had barely spoken a word all night -- finally mumbled "I play this song in C major" and subsequently did exactly that, playing "Lurgee" from "Pablo Honey", holding onto a single chord while the band offered up complex performances around him. Radiohead's spine-tingling performance of "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" proved to be another highlight, showcasing Yorke's electric alto which hung in the air for what seemed an eternity.  The group recieved a five-minute thunderous ovation,
eventually returning for a passionate encore of the Romeo and Juliet
soundtrack number, "Talk Show Host", and quite possibly
the best, most emotional performance of "Fake Plastic Trees"
that the adoring Vancouver audience has ever seen. The night ended
with a scant few final words from Yorke. "Thank you very much
for coming to see us. Safe journey home." Like most geniuses, he may not be an easy man to get along with, but Thom Yorke is a gentle man, a thoughtful man and a brilliant musician, indeed. They stopped my iron lung when the singing comes in because Jonny had to retune, then they started over. While Thom walked backwards during pearly he stepped on his cord and it came out, he was banging on it trying to figure out what was wrong then realized the cord come out, but took another guitar anyway. Thom dedicated paranoid android to Bill Gates "The Most Paranoid man in the Universe".  12-04-1998:

About a minute into talk show host at the line 'floating upon the...', Thom fluffs the words up, and sits down at the front of the stage, while the band continue to play. They then restarted the song, and back at the same line again, Thom stops, hits the microphone stand goes "Shit! Does anyone know the fucking words? I sure as hell can't remember them!" The audience all helped him along, and they got to the end of the song, at which point possibly due to some crowd surfers he picks up his microphone stand, starts waving it at the crowd and ends up trashing it! The reason Thom got pissed and flipped someone off is because some asshole sprayed water all over everyone including Thom and his guitar. Thom echoed the thoughts of many people with his nearly ten second middle finger thrust (as he and the band continued the song)The rest of the gig went really well, plus a performance of how to disappear... and someone lighting a firework sparkler during fake plastic trees and the guard took it and thom gave the person the finger and mouthed fuck you. Second encore listed as bulletproof and let down, but was not played. paranoid android: "this song is currently being dedicated every night to bill gates, the most paranoid man in the universe"[thanks Daniel, distance, Michelle, StuPiD, Steve and Max] Review by Jane Stevenson (Toronto Sun): Thom Yorke must be taking rock star lessons. What else could explain the normally stage-wary lead singer-guitarist of Radiohead pumping his fist and leading a clap-along during last night's sold-out show at Maple Leaf Gardens? Previously Yorke -- he of the gorgeous choirboy voice -- has delivered the British band's expansive, melodic music with a furious shake of his head and the occasional shy smile. While both of those moves were in abundance at last night's performance, which sold out in a mere 90 minutes, Yorke came further out of his tiny shell. His antics even led to a mosh pit, for God's sake -- albeit 45 minutes into the concert -- during a strobe-light enhanced rendition of Planet Telex from the group's 1995 album The Bends. Normally a Radiohead show -- this is their third Toronto appearance since last June, when they released their critically-acclaimed album OK Computer -- involves the five man-group from Oxford, England, playing and the rest of us staring as if in a hypnotic trance. This time, however, there was a slick lighting show and the aforementioned stages moves from Yorke accompanying Radiohead's mood-enhancing, melancholy music. The set list was equal parts the expansive, progressive OK Computer and Radiohead's earlier, more accessible The Bends. Song highlights included Karma Police -- the audience screamed during the chorus -- the rocking title track from The Bends, the equally intense Just, the dreamy Subterranean Homesick Alien -- on which Yorke played keyboards -- the fist-pumping Lucky and the clap-happy Iron Lung.
