Radiohead to perform at 'Later... with Jools Holland'
Not only Canal+ France wil broadcast the Radiohead concert, which was recorded last month, Canal+ Netherlands will do the same. First Dutch broadcast is set for June 5th at 22:25 hours. This will be followed an hour later by a 'Making of...' special. These two shows will be rebroadcast later that month. The French broadcast will be at 22:15 hours on the same day.
It's now confirmed that Radiohead will play a live hour long set for the BBC UK music show 'Later with Jools Holland' to be broadcast on Saturday June 9. Click here to find out how to win tickets. There are fifty pairs of tickets up for grabs, all you have to do is fill out the online form and say, in no more than two sentences, why you should have the tickets. [thanks andy]
According to NME, It is expected the band's set will consist mainly of material from their forthcoming album 'Amnesiac' as well as selected tracks from their previous albums 'Kid A', 'OK Computer' and 'The Bends'.The broadcast will subsequently be aired on Steve Lamaq's radio show on Radio 1 on June 11.
Also, the Pyramid Song single is set for # 2 in the UK charts. According to midweek sales figures it looks likely to become the bands biggest selling single ever. Selling 16,761 copies so far, it's way behind DJ Pied Piper's 'Do You Really Like It' and way ahead of Geri Halliwell's 'It's Raining Men'. [thanks andy & dom]
The iBlip Radiohead Buddy was beta tested last night and mostly answered questions with links to the American Capitol Records' Radiohead website. It will up up fully working on June 5th. [Thanks Gregg]

Ed O'Brien on Radio 3FM
Ed O'Brien was a guest Dutch radio station 3FM today. Ed talked with Wim Rigter in the 'Arbeidsvitaminen' show about Amnesiac and Ed mum's appearances on Radiohead guestlists. Ed played one of his favourite records, which is 'Ghost Town' by the Specials. I've recorded the broadcast. Listen to it by clicking here.
With the band only playing 1 UK gig this year, Ed reveals future tours are undecided after 2000's Big Top tour. "Having the same tent every night meant we didn't have to compromise- the sound and lights were amazing, they're the best gigs we have ever done" Ed enthuses. But I do accept tickets were dear. We may go back to Brixton-style venues and only charge half-price. Some people always assume that we know 'the right thing to do' the truth is we don't." - read it in full here. [thanks Andy]
The Australian broadcast of Top of the pops will be on Sunday May 27th at ABC TV.
Tickets for the Budokan, Tokyo on October 2nd will go on sale on June 10th. [thanks Kyoko]
There was a unknown track played at french radio last week. The track (available in the multimedia section) was #9 on the DJ's copy of Amnesiac. Max K. explains: "official people have confirmed that the track is the one known as 'cuttooth' - which was dropped from the amnesiac track listing at the last minute. it was track 9 on an early tracklisting, so that is where the 'hunting bears' confusion comes from plus the fact it sounds a lot like neu! etc - matches up with eds diary... as for whether it will be a b-side for knives out is more unknown, simply cause decisions like that change from day to day. as for when it was recorded and whether it is actually called 'tongue tied' now is another question..."
According to HMV the Knives Out single (double CD) will be released on July 23rd in the UK. [thanks Andy]
Don't miss the chance to hear the entire Radiohead Amnesiac album before you can buy it. Tune in from now until June 5th via the iblip or desktop proctors. Plus check out all new photos of the band. Radiohead shocked by 'Kid A' reception
Thom Yorke, who rarely gives interviews, told Mojo magazine: "I was really, really amazed at how badly it was being viewed. I actually went into quite a deep state of shock when Kid A came out. People were calling it `commercial suicide', blah blah blah and saying that we were being `intentionally difficult'. That just blew me away because the music's not that hard to grasp.'' here's the full story. [thanks Owen]

The Downloadable Sounds of Orgy... and more
The Amazing Sounds Of Orgy is available for download here.
Dutch magazine Nieuwe Revu has an interview with Ed O'Brien.
There will be an Amnesiac listening party at Paradiso, Amsterdam [Netherlands] on May 28th.
Radiohead will record a live version of their forthcoming single 'Pyramid Song' at a filming in west London for Top of the Pops later today (May 17). In addition, they will also record a version of 'Knives Out', the track which is strongly rumoured to be the second single from the band's forthcoming album 'Amnesiac', released on June 4 via Parlophone. It is expected that neither track will feature on this week's edition of the popular BBC chart show, broadcast every Friday from 7.30pm - instead the songs will be used in a future broadcast. [from nme.com]
From now until the last day of the Pinkpop festival [June 4th] you can buy a Pinkpop 2001 sampler with a live version of Radiohead's 'Dollars and Cents' on it. You can order it here. When you purchase the CD you'll support Amnesty International as well!

Colin on LP6
We've talked about doing a guitar album next," Colin Greenwood reports. "The reason we did these two records is to show that anything is possible rather than everything is expected; the last thing we wanted to do was go into the studio and make another version of OK Computer. My best guess for the next album is a combination of Amnesiac with more guitar music. But the most important thing is, it's song-based music rather than sort of instrumental, non-lyric based music. We try not to insult or bore the intelligence of our audience, because we're aware their tastes are moving on as well as ours with music, and it's exciting to be part of that." [from wall of sound]

"I just got sick of holding grudges basically," he says, eventually, birds still a-tweet. "Enough's enough. Erm? (Tweet tweet) Not least because the people involved have all left. Anyway, I'm doing the NME a favour. Fattening themselves up for floating themselves on the international money market and no doubt this will help, because I'm a name. (Monumental derision) NME-dot-com. More bullshit per second than... whatever." This is from Thom's interview with NME, read more here.

Thom Yorke's NME interview
Thom Yorke has spoken out against the secretive power of the UK intelligence service, MI5, in an exclusive interview with NME.COM.
MI5, which is famously secretive and unaccountable, is involved in intelligence work to investigate and counter covertly organised 'threats'. These include terrorism, subversion, espionage, serious crime and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
Talking about the 'Reclaim The Streets' protests last year, Yorke claimed the authorities were closely monitoring protesters. He told NME.COM: "I know some stuff about MI5 that would shit your brain. But I can't tell you, 'cos they'll do it to me, too. Seriously. And I'm not winding you up, either."
Thom Yorke has broken his silence to give a rare interview, which will appear in next week's issue of NME (May 15). The singer, who has not spoken to the paper for five years, explained his decision to relent. "I just got sick of holding grudges basically," said Yorke. "Enough's enough, it's boring and I can't be arsed any more, really."

Rolling Stone interview
Rollingstone.com has an interview up with Ed O'Brien & Phil Selway. Here are some bits and pieces.
Ed said what Stanley Donwood thought of the album: "Stanley said a great thing," O'Brien recalls. "He said, 'Kid A is like you pick up the phone, you call somebody, and there's an answering machine on the other end. With Amnesiac, you get through to that person. And you're engaged in the conversation."
"There were some tenuous moments," says Phil Selway with a nervous laugh when asked if Radiohead had been in any danger of breaking up while making the two new albums. "There was this dissatisfaction with the way we used to work, but the new way -- using computers more, using sequencers an awful lot -- wasn't producing results."
"We were quite split for two days," Selway recalls. "Thom was very into the idea of a double album, of clearing the decks: 'This is what we've been doing for three years, now we want to move on.' I thought a double album would have been quite unpalatable. People said they had problems with Kid A. Imagine if it had been a double album. I don't think anyone would have given it a second hearing." Radiohead decided to issue two single discs. Amnesiac has its share of Kid A-style art games; one song, "Like Spinning Plates," was built over the backing track of another unreleased song, "I Will," played backward.
O'Brien declines to make any promises about Radiohead's future. "What will happen next is not entirely resolved," he says. "We haven't been in the studio for a while. We're not touring this time the way we used to. People have families now." Yorke became a father on February 6th; he and his girlfriend, Rachel, had a son, Noah. "I don't want to sound negative," O'Brien insists. "Things have changed. It's good. But everything was thrown up in the air two years ago. It's still settling."

Thom's Spin with a Grin
Thom Yorke answered a few questions on 'spin with a grin' again. John Earls asked if there will be more singles from 'amnesiac'. Thom answered: yes there will be more singles. all aimed at radio3.
Veronique asked why 'morning bell' was included on the album again. Thom answered: because it came from such a different place from the other version. because we only found it again by accident after having forgotten about it. because it sounds like a recurring dream. it felt right.
And the Jenny had a lot of questions: What is it New Labour that particularly frustrates you? How do you feel about the other main political parties? Will you vote? Young people are increasingly labelled as 'apathetic' and criticised for not voting. What do you think about this idea? Do you think it is irresponsible to vote for someone you don't believe in? Would you consider launching "You And Whose Army" as an official anti-election tune?
Thom answered: this song is not a personal attack. but no i wont vote and havent votedfor a man willing to go along with son of star wars. its not exactly surprising that a large section of the population will not give a flying fuck about the election. everybody blames evryobody else. and new labour is happy to let filingdales be used in world war 3. they are not in touch and have blatantly betrayed all who supported them except those friendly business interests. we were involved in a campaign to encourage people to vote a few years ago in the uK. this was hijacked by labour. labour are good at highjacking and betraying. they attempted something rather similair with jubilee2000. frightening levels of paranoid bullshit. err oh dear. world war 3.
And there was something included about the NME. I guess you should have read at SWAG
and NME.com.

More Radiohead tour info
The Beta Band will tour with Radiohead on their U.S. tour this Summer. Radiohead (Thom especially) are big fans of The Beta Band and invited them.
Confirmed for the line up for the Oxford gig so far is an acoustic performance by Beck, Sigur Ros (who supported Radiohead on some of the dates of their European tent tour of 2000) and Humphrey Lyttelton and his band!. Further acts to announce, including local Oxford bands. [thanks Caffy]
I've changed some of the information in the tour dates. Apparently a 'Butler Field' does exist in Chicago. ''Soldiers Field" is a bit to large for a venue. Gonna stick with Butler Field for now. For the ones who want to know: It's the big area in Grant Park, right off the lake downtown. Plus the Rock am Ring info is corrected. The Pyramid Song video
As you all know, "Pyramid Song" is accompanied by a stunning animation by Shynola, who did some of the Kid A blips. "'Thom Yorke sent us a very disjointed couple of paragraphs about a dream he'd had about lights in the sky and a load of survivors floating in an aircraft carrier after an unknown disaster or event and we took our inspiration from that,' explains Shynola's Jason Groves. 'It was quite evocative, and it sort of set the mood for the whole promo.'"
The single 'Pyramid Song' will be released in the UK (CD1/CD2/12"), Canada, Australia and Japan (one CD) on May 21st. Three brand new tracks : 'The Amazing Sounds of Orgy', 'Trans-atlantic Drawl' and 'Kinetic' will be released on the single. The UK CD1/CD2 and Japanese CD will also contain 'Fast Track'.
