Leaked MP3's are unmastered material
It seems that the mp3's from the new album are not the final versions. A moderator at CMJ magazine's forums, tomcmj, has said "got this in the office on friday afternoon (i think it's mastered; usually an unmastered advance will say so on it, and this one doesn't). been listening to it all weekend. as expected, it's really good. i'll have to listen to it more before saying where it'll fall in my radiohead preference order." and then "oh guys also, i just downloaded the version that's on the net. chicagomike is right, that's not mastered. don't judge the record by that; those are different, unmastered mixes from what appears on the final version of the record. the record sounds a LOT better than that. guess studio security ain't quite what it should be these days. Hey Jonny, what's up? "The album, apparently"
Jonny was on the official message board this morning. Jonny commented on the album leak: "Colin called and said it was up, so thought I'd check I feel bemused, though, not annoyed....I'm glad people like it, most of all. It's a *little* earlier than we'd expected, but there it is. There there it is ! hahahahaha (..) Surprised, and still not used to it happening, even after all these years..... I worry more that stuff we do *won't* get released for whatever obscure reason, and I hate the 3 month gap between finish and release. But not enough to leak it myself !
When asked if he was downloading his own music. Jonny said:"'It is isn't it ? mean, I *think* it's partly mine, but who knows ? I just wanted to check it was really us." Jonny couldn't say if they were the mastered tracks: "Don't know yet - I've only downloaded I Will and it's hard to tell. I guess we'll find out today. Well it sounds OK on my iBook speakers...Haven't tried it on headphones... Are there any cross fades ?"
When someone suggested it was Ed who leaked it, Jonny commented: "that explains the shades, then. And the frequesnt 'Holidays'. Hmmmm."
Jonny said he wasn't angry about about the leak: Well, you know...... hence the title, really. Not sure where all that George Bush stuff came from.... Heard it, have we? (..) Well Hail is no insult, really...We just like the contradictory phrases like 2+2=5 and Hail to the Thief and all that. We're not angry really....shame it's not a package with the artwork and all, but there you go.
I've got to go. I fell like I'm fishing for praise here...glad you like it. I hope the title makes sense now you've heard the music. I'd better go. Love to all thieves amongst you, see you on tour (more dates coming, oh yes, even maybe in HOMER's new home.....)".

From Xfm: "In other news, I heard the Radiohead album. Oh yes! And its not called ‘2+2=5’, as reported. It is, however, a very, very, very big record. I only heard it once and some tracks I only heard in part. Obviously from that it would be wrong to give a full review or even a vague one."
Apparently there will be two version of There There, a full length version and a another one to be released as a single edit.

'Hail to the Thief', what's it all about?
The title of Radiohead's sixth album 'Hail To The Thief' is also an anti-George W. Bush slogan used by protesters at the end of the controversial election campaign that put him into the White House. The phrase 'Hail To The Thief' was coined by protesters at the end of the 2000 US Presidential election, when controversy famously surrounded Bush's rise to office. The battle between Bush and Democrat candidate Al Gore came to a bitter end, with the result in the key state of Florida dogged by recounts, amid allegations of unfairness in the voting process.
On the day of his inauguration Bush was greeted in Washington by thousands of protesters with banners, some of who shouted, 'Hail to the thief, our commander in chief'. The phrase has now become well used in anti-Bush circles. A website, www.hail-to-the-thief.org, that casts a cynical eye over US policy is active and goes under the banner 'Hail to the Thief! Love your country. Never trust its government.' A number of books and articles have also been written, perhaps most famously 'Mediaocracy 2000 -Hail to the Thief' by Danny Schechter, which looks at the role of the media in the election. Radiohead donate track for mental health project
Radiohead is giving a soundtrack to budding film-makers to help younger people come to terms with mental health issues. The acclaimed band has handed over the track so would-be directors can use it in their short films as part of an MTV initiative.
The channel has teamed up with charities Samaritans and Mind Out For Mental Health for the Need To Talk campaign. Radiohead's Meeting In The Aisle has been donated for free by the band and was recorded during the sessions for OK Computer.
Drummer Phil Selway, who works as a Samaritan, said: "When the biggest killer of young men in the UK is themselves, anything the band can do to draw attention to the issue of emotional health is worthwhile." Young British film-makers are being asked to submit films or animations from 30 to 60 seconds interpreting or responding to the phrase "need to talk".
The track can be accessed on the MTV website and films must be submitted by April 25. MTV marketing director James Scroggs said: "Radiohead have been generously supportive in offering an exclusive track, and their endorsement will both inspire the film-makers and help bring the issue of discussing emotional issues to the fore." MTV shows restraint
During wartime, MTV is nixing violent videos, such as ones with images of war and explosions, a spokeswoman told MSNBC's The Scoop. "Videos with words such as `bomb,' `missile,' `war' or other sensitive words in the artist or song title should not be shown at the moment," said MTV Europe executive Mark Sunderland. "We're screening videos with an eye toward current events to make sure whatever we play is sensitive and appropriate."
MTV Europe has issued a list of videos that should not be played during the conflict in Iraq. Among the banned are System of a Down's Boom!, an antiwar video directed by Michael Moore, whose "Shame on you, Mr. Bush!" speech Sunday night had Oscar directors scrambling to play exit music.
Other off-limits videos include Aerosmith's Don't Want to Miss a Thing (contains footage from the film Armageddon), U2's Miss Sarajevo (contains missiles, guns and buildings being blown up), Bon Jovi's This Ain't a Love Song (contains war scenes and victims in distress) and Radiohead's Lucky (contains war footage including injured children).

Moby on Radiohead
Here's a mention of Radiohead in Australian newspaper, Melbourne's Herald Sun between interviewer Cameron Adams and Moby today. [thanks scott]
CA - What can you tell us about your cover band, Camp Freddy?
M - It's comprised of Slash and Duff from Guns N' Roses and I'm playing guitar
on a cover of Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love and Sweet's Ballroom Blitz, with
Perry Farrell singing. It's very rock.
CA - Are there any other covers up your sleeve?
M - I might do Radiohead's Creep
CA - Is it quite a faithful version?
M - It's actually pretty faithful, with me singing. Obviously my voice is
nothing like Thom Yorke's, so it is very much a second-rate version compared to
Radiohea's, but it's still fun to play.
CA - Well they don't play it, so someone should reclaim it...
M - That's one of the reasons we decided to do it.

Chris Blair on Radiohead
In an article taken from Abbey Road studios magazine 'Playback', Chris Blair tells about his work at the Abbey Road studios: "What I am doing here is normally attended by the artists or the producer or the record company. It's the final bit where you piece the whole album together and normally someone has firm ideas about how they want it - but they are usually open to suggestions from me. I can come up with ideas that they haven't even thought of." He's worked with practically everyone in the business from Queen to Pink Floyd to the Beatles. Ask him though who his favourite people to work with are and you'll get a surprise. Blair is not locked into nostalgia. "The Radiohead guys are very nice". Radiohead do however occupy a special place in Blair's heart, if only for the colossal number of reels of half inch they will bring to a session. "On one Radiohead album I did they brought in 122 reels instead of the 6 that most people work with. That was pretty daunting." [full story, thanks Boobear]

Radiohead play UK clubs in May
Radiohead have finally completed their sixth album and will undertake a tour in May in the smallest British venues they'll have visited in almost six yearThe band's new album, recorded in Oxford and LA over the last year, will be released on June 9, preceded by a brand new single in mid-May.
