RADIOHEAD AT R.E.M. SHOW IN VANCOUVER
Before tonight's show at the Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver, Radiohead were already out there enjoying the R.E.M. show last night. The band walked out on the field before the show started and watched the show from there. Michael Stipe dedicated 'Orange Crush' to Radiohead. After mentioning Radiohead again later in the set, the bass line of Radiohead's 'The National Anthem' was played twice. Michael Stipe said he was going to be there at tonight's show.
During the last two songs two songs Thom Yorke joined R.E.M. on stage. Thom joined Michael Stipe on vocals with 'E-bow the letter'. Thom previously performed this song with R.E.M. at the Tibetan Freedom Concert. For the last song of the set, 'It's the end of the world' Thom was still on the stage doing vocals and even later he took over Peter Buck's guitar and played with the band. It was an amazing performance with Thom joking, dancing and singing on stage.
Just a note: Last time Thom sang with R.E.M. on stage, Michael Stipe joined Radiohead with their perfomance (vocals on Lucky)... Will it happen again tonight? We'll see. Seeya there ;)

COLIN GREENWOOD INTERVIEW IN VANCOUVER SUN
Colin Greenwood was interviewed by the Vancouver Sun. "WhenThom wants to get off and have an early night and doesn't want to talk with anyone, then he deploys me. I just got back from having seafood with my brother and we had lobster. It was lovely."
Radiohead has said it is making every effort to avoid Clear Channel owned venues this time around, to circumvent the monopoly claimed by the concert behemoth. "What we're trying to do is strike a balance between providing music and entertainment between people who want to come and see it without excluding audiences or places and trying to work as independently as possible at the same time," he rattles off.
"I had a really good one in Italy with a television journalist who said, 'Haven't you had death threats? Aren't you worried about censorship in America?' I said to the guy, 'You come from a country where the president has passed laws exempting himself from any kind of prosecution on corruption charges, and you are slagging off America. Don't you think that's a bit hypocritical?' And he looked at me, and said, 'We can't use that.'"
One of the album's best songs is A Wolf at the Door, written by Jonny Greenwood. It almost fell victim to the overwrought process.
"It's one of my favourites, too, and it nearly didn't get on the record," says Greenwood. "I don't know why. I can't remember. I think it would have been terrible, though. That's the thing, if you spend too long doing things, you don't have a clue do you?"
Greenwood wants to shake up the band's work ethic next time around. He wants to write and record a few songs, and if they are beautiful enough, play them live before returning to the studio to finish the album.
"Spruce it all up over time," he says. "Break down the recording process."
As for solo projects, the band is keen on seeing Yorke dive in, and feels it could even be a beneficial exercise for their frontman, but they are more reluctant to go forth themselves.
"It's funny you should say that, because we were talking about it over the seafood today in Boston at the aquarium and we decided we wouldn't straight away," says Greenwood, referring to the idea of doing a side project with Jonny. "But my brother's done a wonderful [soundtrack] project called Bodysong, and it's really good. So that's really exciting. and it's coming out in October on EMI.
"But that's about as far as it goes, because we are still really excited about Radiohead stuff, and we have lots of ideas for that."
On what label these ideas will end up is another matter. Radiohead is currently between labels, having fulfilled its six-album contract with Parlophone/EMI. For the last several months, it has appeared to be in negotiations, though Greenwood is unable to say.
"We'll see how well the record does," he says. "Oh it will be fine. Uh, is there anything new? No. It's all completely up in the air. It's a very frustrating answer, but it's the truth. I wish I could say we've got all these plans or we haven't. But it's still nothing. Still waiting desperately to see whether anyone wants to carry on working with us again. I hope so," he adds, sounding falsely desperate.

Radiohead’s fantastic new release together with staggering CG, completed by The Mill for their music video, is such a combination, destined for chart-topping success.
The video, Directed by Alex Rutterford of Black Dog/RSA, features a virtually generated Thom Yorke performing the bands latest release ‘Go to Sleep’. full story.

REVIEWS
Some reviews of the Alpine Valley show are online: Sun Times, Daily Herald, JS Online, ConcertLiveWire. [thanks Mark]
Fan reviews of the Alpine Valley shows and all those other shows have been updated in the gigography.
And here's a review of Christopher O'Riley at the Knitting Factory (from LA Times):
Brad Mehldau did it first with his jazz piano, working Radiohead's "Exit Music (for a Film)" and "Paranoid Android" into his albums as early as 1998. But Los Angeles-based classical pianist Christopher O'Riley has taken an obsession with the English rock band to its logical conclusion: playing all Radiohead, all the time.
At two sold-out shows on Friday at the Knitting Factory Hollywood, an affable O'Riley chatted with the crowd and trounced his ambitious, kinetic arrangements, white button-down shirt pulled casually out of his jeans.
But the performance was fascinating mostly for the purity of the obsession with Radiohead he seemed to share with most everyone in the room.
Kicking off with "Airbag," from the band's 1997 breakthrough statement, "OK Computer," O'Riley attacked 18 arrangements that were both reworkings and mimetic exercises. His versions were often differently paced and denser than the originals, and yet he seemed bent on finding clever sonic approximations of vocal parts, electronic marginalia and off-melody signatures whose absence would be missed by true fans.
On "Motion Picture Soundtrack," for example, he filled the background behind the simple melody with blazing runs up and down the keyboard to mimic a harp part in the original. Though he clearly enjoyed the soaring, sweet parts of each song, O'Riley never reduced the compositions, always maintaining their complex character.
Despite his obvious talent, however, O'Riley knew he was playing only to hard-core fans, even asking for a vote on songs to play in the middle of the set, and settling on a B-side called "Polyethylene Part 2."
Describing himself as the "biggest geek in the room," he asked whether he should play "Good Morning Mr. Magpie," which Radiohead singer Thom Yorke played solo only once, on a Christmas Webcast. By the time he got to his second encore, "True Love Waits" (also the title of his album of Radiohead hits), even the crowd's standing ovation couldn't diminish the feeling that these were only brilliantly played substitutes for the real songs.

RADIOHEAD'S HOSTILE TAKEOVER
For the first stop on their US tour, Radiohead stormed Boston's cutting edge alternative radio station FNX, taking part in what the station has dubbed "Hostile Takeover". They arrived in the early evening looking surprisingly rested and with entire suitcases of music in tow, eager to take part in the tradition. Hostile Takeover, a concept unique to WFNX, places a visiting band in control of the studio to play exactly what they'd like, from Bob Marley to Beth Gibbons to the Meters. IPods and laptops were hooked up while Thom, Phil, Ed, and Colin sifted through CDs and explored the station (Johnny, unfortunately, was not in attendance). The band members seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves as they introduced songs between bites of vegetarian sushi, and Thom Yorke was even spotted cutting loose and dancing.
Paul Driscoll, FNX DJ and mastermind behind the show "Alter-Ego", reflected, "The whole thing was very surreal. I've been a fan of theirs since 1993... It's hard to put the experience into words." He went on to say how refreshing it was that they were so down to earth and fun to have in the studio. Alter-Ego, a new and unique show which strives to push the boundaries of corporate radio, has previously hosted Hostile Takeovers for bands such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Supergrass, The Music, and Feeder. The UK superstars only stayed a couple hours but left lasting impressions. Besides their winning demeanors, the lads of Radiohead brought their impeccable and broad tastes in music, delighting both DJ's and listeners. The band appeared to appreciate the novelty of the Hostile Takeover experience, especially when they have to endure so many interviews. It gave the listeners a taste of what it is like to witness a band hanging out and listening to their own favorite music, an activity usually reserved for the privacy of the home or tour bus. Their stay at FNX, ending only after the band stopped to admire the many years of stickers plastered to a filing cabinet next to the elevator, will not soon be forgotten.

TALKING TO PG
For security reasons, rock stars often check into hotels under other names. For instance, when we get this exclusive opportunity to interview super-group Radiohead, we are told to ask for ‘PG’. We aren’t disclosing what PG stands for, but let’s reveal that it’s also the name of another well-known musician. “Hello. Is that PG?” we ask on our phone call to Tokyo. “Yes,” comes the reply. “And whom will I interview?” we enquire. “Me,” he answers. Our next question: “Won’t I be speaking to anyone from the group?” His next answer: “Please ask the questions, and I will give the answers.”

LOW ON THE ROAD WITH RADIOHEAD
Alan Sparkhawk of Low wrote a diary while touring with Radiohead in July. "Radiohead joined us for talk, some pictures, and the inevitable farewell. We talked about their upcoming shows—they are apparently already catching flack in the United States for their hinted antiwar/anti-Bush tendencies. Colin was probably the most social one for the whole tour—very encouraging and gracious. Phil, the drummer, was always lovely to talk to and always the best dressed of the bunch. Even the “dark one,” Johnny was quite social on occasion. Almost wish I had some kind of dirt or personal gripe to offer to make it sound more interesting, but that’s that: They are really nice people who make great music and try very hard to make the whole experience for everyone around them as positive and selfless as possible. We really had a great time. I wish them the best."
