Thom: small Radiohead gigs in 2006
Thom made an appearance on Radiohead's official message board, where he talked about rumoured Argentina gigs:
this year is not far from over.
next year we will play some small gigs. actually maybe a couple of large ones too. but im afraid2006 will not include argentina. if we are all still here in 2007 then it would be great.

Thom Yorke: 'We're splitting up.... "
Two posts and probably the last posts for a while on Dead Air Space. Here's the post from Thom:
bananas
it is the end of our two week session.
we re splitting up its all shit. were washed. up. finished.
only kidding.
it was fun. some of it has been really great fun. and there were moments that stick in my head when i went 'TUNE!' 'TuNE!'
like tonight listening through
' house of cards.'
its us, no denying it. bu t thats cool.. i like it. it has its own power. cant fight that i suppose. although i see it as my duty to try.
i will dread listening to it all after we have left in the real world. i always dread that. id much rather start something new and forget. but right now...is good.
guess thats why the blackboard is full.
thm
And later on another post from Ed:
the dogs have gone to bed
friday night ....... the end of a two week session .......riffs and fragments of the songs going round my head ...... its been great .... its always difficult to judge right now but i think we may have got 'bodysnatchers' ...... had a couple of sticky days at the beginning of the week but saw it through .... on a roll now ..... lots of stuff to be done yet, but so far so good.... the studio is fab, its so good to play in and listen.... you know what works and what doesn't ..... the only problem is you will never hear what you do sound so good as the sound system is outrageous .... ths studio also sits on the edge of some beautiful woodland .... had a great ray mears moment in the wood today on a solitary walk when i came across some deer and hid behind a tree to watch them for a few minutes ...... time to head off i'm really tired.... goodnight.

Colin: 'Exciting talk of shows next year'
Colin just updated Dead Air Space. Apparently the band have one more week to go and then take a break until December. Radiohead are already discussing next year's tour dates... So...er... Hooray!
Two days off, sunday spent dragging a puppy around Abingdon.
back tomorrow, after a full on week of recording a song a day, some not even on the blackboard....one of jonny's tunes, packing a lot in 2 mins 45 seconds! Spent weekend agreeing with Nick Cohen, hoping Simon Starling would win the Turner, listening to new modeselektor album, and waiting to get the boards of canada and pharrell williams tomorrow. Exciting talk of shows next year; it's good to have a plot. Another week ahead in the studio, then more in December. I'll keep you posted this week with more news and wonky shots, so wish us luck!

Follow Me Around - Film screening
Follow Me Around (45 mins) is a new short film by Radiohead fans Nazare and Samuel, made with the band's co-operation on the 2002 tour of Spain and Portugal which previewed songs from the album 'Hail To The Thief'.
When Oxford's fab five play, a united nation of fans travel from all over the world for the shows. Captured atmospherically, are evenings in these lives, shot as a mix of candid, conversational and backdrop with live footage and band interviews. Just who is following who here? Would Radiohead do it?
The story of every band is largely defined by having fans... here's one told from a different angle.
Artful Music/Film Festival - first public screening of 'Follow Me Around' a film by, for and about Radiohead (October 21st, re-screened on October 29th) + screening of Faction showreel by Patrick Jones (October 29th).
Friday October 21st and Saturday October 29th @ Greenwich Picture House, London.
as part of ARTFUL, the non-conventional convention which runs until October 31st and includes a music film festival. News, events and more at http://www.artful.ik.com

Radiohead on Ricky Gervais's iPod
In todays Metro in London, Ricky Gervais talks about six tracks from his iPod in the section called 'On My iPod - Six Track Mix': One of the tracks is Radiohead's 'Bones':
"I didn't like Radiohead much when I first heard them. But then again, I didn't like The Simpsons much at first. What a fool. Then I heard The Bends, which is one of the greatest albums of all time. It does what great music is meant to do- it makes a connection. Bones is one of my favourites. When it soars on the lyric 'I used to fly like Peter Pan' I well up."
The other tracks were: After the Gold Rush by Neil Young, If you see her, say hello by Bod Dylan, Thunder Road by Bruce Springsteen, Letter to Hermione by David Bowie, Hurt by Johnny Cash [thanks Mandy]

Sheryl Crow on Radiohead
In the October 6, 2005 Rolling Stone (issue 984) none other than Sheryl Crow describes the last great concert she attended:
"Emotionally, the last concert that really moved me was Radiohead at Irving Plaza (in New York). It was right before OK Computer came out, but it had been leaked on the internet, and everybody was singing every word. It was like being in a church service. Unbelievevable."

Fans tell nme.com Thom Yorke should face Tony Blair
Thom Yorke has appealed for fan guidance after being asked to meet Tony Blair - and NME readers think he should take the PM on.
As previously reported, having visited Parliament on behalf of Friends Of The Earth in May, the Radiohead singer posted online questioning whether he and Blair should go head-to-head in Downing Street to discuss climate change.
Fans immediately contacted NME.COM with advice for the singer, with the vast majority, 70 per cent, suggesting he should go.
One fan, Dave Taylor warned Yorke should "avoid Blair like the plague", though another Phil Erritty urged the singer not to spurn the opportunity.
"Yorke should meet and discuss issues on his mind with leading politicians," he suggested.
It was an opinion echoed by Chris Barratt, who explained, "Mr Blair is used to fawning sycophants and being protected from reality. Thom is the man to give him a hard time and cut through the spin." [thanks Shaun]

BBC 6Music poll: Radiohead's 'OK Computer' overrated
Radiohead's 'OK Computer' came in 6th at BBC 6 Music's 'Most Overrated Album of all Time' list. Nirvana's 1991 record Nevermind has been voted the most overrated album of all time by BBC 6 Music listeners. Coldplay's X&Y came second in the survey, followed by The Libertines' self-titled second album at three. 6 Music's Ric Blaxill said the poll had given the digital station's listeners the chance to "address the hyperbole". Listeners were invited to submit their nominations, which were shortlist tto 10 and put to a public vote. [thanks Juliet, James]

Canadian folk group sues Jonny & Phil's Wyrd Sisters
15-year-old folk band The Wyrd Sisters are suing Warner Brothers Entertainment Canada, Warner Brothers Records, Pulp's Jarvis Cocker and Radiohead's Phil Selway and Johnny Greenwood for trademark infringement in an Ontario court as Chart Attack reports.
Here's the problem: In J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire there's a band of wizards called The Wyrd Sisters, who play at the Hogwarts Yule Ball. In the movie, due out November 18, Cocker, Selway and Greenwood play these rock 'n' roll wizards, originally under the same name.
Of course, this pissed off the Juno-nominated Wyrd Sisters. Singer and band co-founder Kim Baryluk says if their name is used in the Harry Potter movie it'll mean the end for these folkies.
"[Harry Potter] is so much more huge than us in their reach that we'll go out on tour a month after the movie comes out &@8212; and we'll go all over to Australia, to New Zealand &@8212; and people will wonder who are these strange people stealing the Harry Potter name?"
Baryluk was first made aware of this conflict back in June after Warner sent her a letter offering her $5,000 to share their name. She quickly realized that sharing a band name with characters in a Harry Potter film could cause some trouble so she turned down their offer. Baryluk says getting her band off the ground again — which could involve a name change — will cost significantly more than $5,000 or the $50,000 Warner later offered.
"Do you know what I've spent on the band in the past 10 years?" says Baryluk. "In the last 10 years I've spent more than a million dollars. Offering me $50,000 is more than an insult."
So what does Warner say about all this? Although they said they don't comment on pending litigation, they did point out in a statement that the band in the movie don't have a name and that they have no intention to use The Wyrd Sisters moniker.
Radiohead's management were willing to clarify this a little further.
"[Johnny and Phil] were asked to be in the film to be The Wyrd Sisters, which is what J.K. Rowling called the band and then there's this [Canadian] band called The Wyrd Sisters, so now they can't be called The Wyrd Sisters," says a member of Radiohead's management, who didn't want to be named. "The [Canadian] Wyrd Sisters are just trying to sue them for namesake. The whole story is just a couple of people in a band trying to get some money."
Radiohead's management reiterated that the name The Wyrd Sisters won't be used in the movie. "In the film they're not being called by that name."
Baryluk's lawyer, Kimbery-Townley Smith, says she's heard Warner won't use the name, but that the damage has already been done — people already associate The Wyrd Sisters with Harry Potter.
"If you go on the 'net now and put in Harry Potter and Wyrd Sisters you get 6,000 hits or something crazy like that. People know already and that's because up until recently Warner had them credited and the official word was that the name of the band was The Wyrd Sisters. They've already created an association between the name and the band and that's all you need."
Suing Warner is one thing, but does Baryluk really need to go after 20 per cent of Radiohead?
"They're the band," says Townley-Smith. "Whether Warner made them or paid them, they were performing as The Wyrd Sisters. We hope there's artists respect there as well."
Warner and the Canadian Wyrd Sisters have been discussing their problem since June and in that time Baryluk says she's had to cancel a tour, postpone a CD release and had one band member quit because "she needed to do business and couldn't sit around."
Baryluk knows that fighting a huge conglomerate and some pretty successful rock starts will be difficult, but she feels she has to do it.
"I really feel that morally we have the right to own our name and we have a right to go about our business without interference. And anybody other than Warner would not dare to step on our dignity. Warner has this attitude that they can do what they want because they are big and huge and we're just flies and I think they're wrong. How else am I supposed to do my business?"
