Radiohead take a break from recording
Radiohead are taking a break from recording to start up again in the new year, Thom posted on Dead Air Space. Thom also commented on the media speculating on the forthcoming album.
From their website.. "The session features solo performances of "Videotape" and "Down Is The New Up" - two new tracks from the forthcoming Radiohead album, due to be released in 2007." Oh really? Says who? They obviously know more than i do myself. We don't know what will make it to the record, neither do they, neither do you. It drives me nuts the way people take it upon themselves to fluff stuff up like this. I just played a couple of songs on piano that happened to be ones that the band were working on at the time. And that was quite a while ago now. Sheesh. ANyway.......................................... We are taking a break now starting up again in jan. Have a good christmas everyone, if you celebrate it that is, love peace and hope for the future x Thom
Thom edited his post later on:
www.fromthebasement.tv this site is up now... and luckily they have the facts straight about the songs.. so no beef do i have no more. so thats alright then. 'videotape' i was very proud of. and it doesnt sound like the version that we are working on now.. which is even better... they are sketches obviously just me on the piano. check it oot. We are taking a break now starting up again in jan. Have a good christmas everyone, if you celebrate it that is, love peace and hope for the future x Thom Thom

Nigel Godrich on 'From The Basement'
As previously reported, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich's "From the Basement" will be available for download December 18, right here. The first show includes a preview of two new Radiohead tracks; 'Down Is The New Up' and 'Videotape'.
Taking time out from working on the new Radiohead record, Godrich told Pitchfork in a recent interview, "We've got a lot of people that I'd like to see on the show [that] we're talking to. [But] I don't want to mention their names. Obviously, I'm really interested to capture some really iconic, bigger names-- really the whole point is to get people who are having their moment, to try and get a definitive record of what they're doing."
"And also, I've got a lot of friends in smaller bands," continued Godrich, "and there's an element of trying to promote stuff that we think is good."
Indeed, Godrich first conceived of "From the Basement" as a means of authentically documenting the pulse of music being made today. "Beck and I [had] been watching Rock and Roll Circus, that Rolling Stones movie that they made after they'd been on tour...we were just saying how amazing it was to see such a snapshot of that time: You get to see them, warts and all...hanging out with John Lennon and Eric Clapton and all these people.
"[We were] just saying what a shame it was that there wasn't anything that really felt as honest as that anymore, at the moment."
Drawing further inspiration from British television music series "The Old Grey Whistle Test", Godrich soon landed upon the idea of a television program. But despite early reports, "From the Basement" will not appear on British television-- instead it will be available solely as an Internet download.
Explained Godrich, "They were quite prepared to put it out on TV if we would take a sponsor, like a mobile phone company or whatnot, and I was just like, 'No fucking way, that's just not the point at all.'
"The idea is to be independent-- to have no agenda, to the point that we don't have to present that, because I don't want anybody to-- it's got to be neutral."
Oh right, and that Radiohead record? "We're just getting on with it, really...I honestly really don't know [how long it will take], and that's the truth." [read the full interview at Pitchfork]

The following message from Thom came in:
For anyone who has heard The Eraser, there are some remixes coming.

They may start appearing soon. Gradually. Briefly.
Just a taste. And then gone.
On www.theeraser.net
First there is Surgeon's Rmx of The Clock.
This was the one that made me think, we got to start getting these out.
I was chuffed he wanted to do it as think he is a MASTER.
He has turned it into something really hard. And disco.
Well what i call disco anyhow.
It made me very proud.
I hope it gets played in a club somewhere.
Not that i get out much nowadays.
Peace to us all during the festive season.

'OK Computer' Down Under's all-time nr. 3
Radiohead's 'OK Computer' was voted third favourite album of all time in a national poll conducted by ABC in Australia.
The survey of more than 100,000 Australians, who voted by phone, online and by SMS, was topped by Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side Of The Moon'. A surprising second was the 1994 album 'Grace', by Jeff Buckley.
The Beatles took out the next two places with 'Abbey Road' (1969) in fourth and 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' (1967) in fifth.
Nirvana's 'Nevermind', Led Zeppelin's 'IV', 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik' by The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, 'Bat Out Of Hell' by Meatloaf and U2's 'Joshua Tree' rounded out the top ten.
