lyrics

Can you hear them?
The helicopters?
I'm in New York
No need for words now
We sit in silence
You look me In the eye directly
You met me I think it's Wednesday
The evening
The mess we're in and
The city sun sets over me
Night and day I dream of
Making-love
To you now baby
Love-making
On-screen
Impossible dream
And I have seen
The sunrise
Over the river
The freeway
Reminding Of this mess we're in and
The city sun sets over me
What were you wanting?
I just want to say
Don't ever change now baby
And thank you I don't think we will meet again
And you must leave now
Before the sunrise
Above skyscrapers
The sin and
This mess we're in and
The city sun sets over me

THIS MESS WE'RE IN (3:57)

Notes: Duet between Thom Yorke & PJ Harvey. The song is written by PJ Harvey

PJ Harvey: "I'd like to write more for other people and this is the first point in my life where I've felt capable enough and strong enough to do it. So I begged him. Writing for other people makes you write in a different way and someone else's voice brings a different dimension to the album and changes the atmosphere and the character. Thom was top of my list of voices I wanted to sing with. His voice is unique and beautiful, it completely opens me up. There's very few people have voices that can open you up and let your emotions flow through their voice. Thom can do that."

Very occasionally I write a song that doesn't feel like mine, like ‘The mess that we're in', I thought of who was my favourite voice that could sing it, and it was Thom.

He just came over to the studio for a couple of days. He’s an extremely wonderful musician, he came up with some very unusual ideas for the songs. He’s just really inspiring. I learnt a lot from him."
